The First Week

One week of second grade is done.  At recess we can play kickball, jump rope, and play on the spiderweb.  We've read good books like Andy Shane and Very Bossy Delores Starbuckle.

Joey and Cassell read their "Good Fit" Books and practice reading independently.

We've played math games.  Today we learned Addition Top-It and on Wednesday we played Number Squeeze.
Caleb and Dawn play Number Squeeze.

Madeline and Adelie practice addition by playing Addition Top-It.

We practiced our spelling and vocabulary words.

Kamran works on his reading vocabulary sheet.

We are ready for the weekend for some fun and relaxation.  By Monday we will be rested and ready to learn.

Our First Day

We learned about "Good Fit Books."  That means you pick a book that fits you.  We compared books to shoes.  Shoes are different sizes.  Some books fit us better than others.  Shoes also have different purposes and we read different books for different reasons.  We learned to use IPICK when getting books.  That means we pick books for a purpose.  Why do we want to read a book?  What are we interested in?  Can we comprehend (understand) the story?  Do we know most of the words?
We colored a story about school rules.
We read a book called Chrysanthemum.  People made fun of her name.  It made her feel sad.  Mrs. Twinkle named her baby Chrysanthemum.  Chrysanthemum felt facinated and proud.
We had a good day on the first day of school in Mrs. Games's second grade class.

Mrs. Games's First Day Back

What a busy day!  Teachers had meetings ALL day.  I did not get very much done in the classroom.  Hopefully I will be able to finish a few things between tomorrow's meetings.  I'm getting excited and am looking forward to meeting all my students.  It will be a GREAT year!

Welcome To Our Class

This is something new for us to try.  Our goal is to post comments, pictures, and activities we are participating in at least once a week. (Remember, this is our goal.  It may not happen.  We will see.)
