Monarch Butterfly Release

Over the last couple of days, we could see the wings showing through the chrysalis.

Our butterfly emerged last night.

Here we are getting ready to release our adult Monarch butterfly.

Mrs. Games used our book to hold the opening open and we waited...

Off he went into the blue sky!

We'll miss our butterfly.

I-Pick Rap

We have learned a rap to help us pick books that "fit" us.  The students did a great job.  Mrs. Games was the only one that messed up.  She can't film AND say a rap at the same time!

The Butterfly Cycle by Mrs. Games's Class

This is our catepillar when we first got him on Monday from Mrs. Morris.

He eats milkweed leaves.  We fed him everyday.  He got fatter and fatter.

Yesterday (Sunday), he crawled to the top and attached himself.

Then on Monday morning he started to make his "J" which is the beginning of his chrysalis.

Monday afternoon during math groups he made his chrysalis.

The stages of the Monarch Butterfly are:  the egg, the larvae (catepillar), the pupa (chrysalis), and then adult (Monarch Butterfly).

Math Games

Friday afternoons usually bring us together to play some math games that make math fun, and we learn a lot too.  These are just 3 of the games we've played so far.  We rotate through the stations so that we play all the games.  Sometimes we play with a partner or in groups and sometimes we work by ourselves.

We are playing Addition Top-It.  We each draw 2 cards, add them together, and see who has the larger sum.

Here we are playing 10s Go Fish.  Each person tries to find pairs that add to 10.  If you don't have one, you ask your partner.  If your partner doesn't have one, you have to go fish.

100 Grid Puzzles are a favorite!  We try to put together a 100 grid that matches the one in our classroom.

Picking Our Books

Blake is looking through the books to see which book "fits" him.

After carefully looking through the books, Blake chooses one.

Now it is Meredith's turn to pick a book.  She looks over them carefully.

She is counting the words that she does not know on the first few pages.

There was only one word that she didn't know so this books "fits" her.
