Block the Door

Today we had our "Block the Door"  food collection campaign.  It was a huge success!  Our class did an awesome job.  I have to admit I was a little worried last week.  The whole school really kicked it in this week.  We beat our donations from last year!

Here are some pictures.

Things are going great.  Then...

Crash!

Thank goodness for Mrs. Smittle!  She helped us get our donations to stay up.

Wow!  Success!  We are so proud.

End of the Day Fun
Our trip to listen to the WV Symphony lasted longer than we thought it would, so we didn't get as much recess as usual.  We took a little time at the end of the day to enjoy the nice weather and get the wiggles out.

Halloween Math Morning

We had our annual second grade Halloween Math Morning.  We wore our costumes all day and played games all morning.  We had some moms and Mrs. Smittle come in and help us.  It was a great way to spend our morning!

Miss Thomas's Going Away Party

It is time for Miss Thomas to move upstairs to 4th grade with Mrs. Ice for her last position in student teaching.  We are certainly going to miss her.

Miss Thomas is reading her "Teacher Tips" that we wrote for her.  Now it is time to see what kinds of teacher goodies we all contributed to her teacher bag.

Butterfly Release

I was having trouble loading the video of our butterfly release.  So I'm just going to give the link.

Apple Art

Mr. Jones came to our room and did an art project on shading.  He showed us how to blend colors to create apples for our bulletin board.  They turned out awesome!

Butterfly Cycle and Migration

Mrs. Roberts shared some of her Monarch Butterfly larvae (caterpillar) with us.  We watched it eat milkweed leaves and then create its chrysalis.  On Thursday, it became an adult butterfly!  We released it on Friday to make its long journey south.

Characteristics of Matter

We used MysteryScience.com to discover some properties of materials and discuss why we wear clothing.  Our final project was to create a hat to help us block the sun.  Here's what we came up with using a paper plate, paper towel, and foil.  Great Job!

Good Fit Books

It's that time of year where we learn to choose books for our reading baskets.  We talk about if the books we choose fit the reason we want to read as well as our reading levels.  We need books that are "Just Right" like we need shoes to be "Just Right."

Seth was a good sport and tried on shoes for us to see if the different shoes were good for his purpose of being in school and if they fit him -- not too large or too small.

Mr. Games's work shoes were a little too big.

Flip flops might work for school but not with socks!  These are a little big.  We'd better try again.

It's not raining today and wearing boots that are too large won't work well.

Tennis shoes are great for school but again one pair is too big.

Uh oh!  Mrs. Games is in on the action.  Seth's shoe is too small for her and her shoe is too large for Seth.  They'd better go with their own shoes for the day at school.
