Graphs

We will create many graphs this year.  Our first graph is our Birthday Graph.

Our second graph is graphing how many letters are in our names.  We made this one after we read Chrysanthemum because she had 13 letters in her name.  Wow!

Nobody's Octopus Is In Second Grade

One of the first things we have learned is how to gather onto the carpet.  Here we are ready to listen to Nobody's Mother Is In Second Grade.

Our class created our own story.  First we wrote our first draft.  Here it is:

Then we had to revise our story:

     Here is our final copy!

Nobody's Octopus Is In Second Grade
By Room 10

This morning the students at Vienna Elementary came to Room 10 and saw an octopus in the class.  Her name was Mrs. Octo.  The students laughed because there was an octopus teaching their class.
Mrs. Octo began teaching them about octopuses in the ocean.  They learned a lot.
After that, they all went outside for recess.  Mrs. Octo played on the monkey bars.  She could use all eight of her arms.  She was very good.
At the end of the day, Mrs. Octo gave groups of eight kids "high fives."  Then they all went home, even Mrs. Octo whose home was in the sea.

We have illustrated our story too.  What wonderful artists we have!

Last Day

Wow!  Another year has passed.  I have been really bad about updating our blog.  We had a super last week of school and I haven't taken ANY pictures.  I'm so sorry!

On Tuesday we had our Accelerated Reader swim party.  All of the second graders made their goal.  Four students passed the 100 point mark.  Two students were from our class and two were from Mrs. Kisner's.  That's pretty amazing for second graders.

Thursday, Mrs. Kisner and I had a reading and math game day.  I had four stations of math and she had four stations of reading.  We rotated our own classes in the morning and then switched groups.  It was a lot of fun for all of us.

Mrs. Turley, our gym teacher, organized an amazing field day for us today.  We had tons of parents volunteers, separated into groups, and had a super morning playing games.  Then this afternoon we had our awards ceremony.  We have so many outstanding students here at Vienna School that it took about an hour to honor everyone.

Have an awesome summer!

Spelling Bee

Wow!  The second graders really rocked the 2nd and 3rd Grade School Spelling Bee!  Our class even placed 3rd, 2nd, AND 1st!  Here are some pictures.  All of the students worked hard and deserve the highest praise.

Ella spells her first word!

Garrett spells next.

Joey was in my class last year.  Congratulations to him for his hard work!

Echo has to stand on tiptoes to reach the microphone.

Joey has his award.

Caleb and Joey, both from my room last year, discuss the results after receiving their awards.

Ella (second place) and Echo (third place) have their awards.

Garrett (first place) is standing with Joey and Caleb.

Garrett is the first place winner.  Now he gets to go to the county spelling bee.  He'll have many, many words to study.

Here are our class AND school winners.  Garrett (1st), Ella (2nd), and Echo (3rd) show off their awards.

Earth Day - Save the Truffula Trees

Our Earth Day Bulletin Board

We made Truffula Trees and wrote how we would help The Lorax save them.  I found these wonderful ideas on Pinterest!

Here are our Lorax paper toppers.

Read Across America

We are celebrating Read Across America with some Dr. Seuss fun.  We brought our blankets and pillows and relaxed while listening to some Dr. Seuss read alouds.  Mrs. Hanshaw, Mrs. Tice, and Mrs. King read some of their favorite books.  We also read on our own and took some AR quizzes.

Mrs. King read The Digging-est Dog.  It was favorite of hers from when she was a little and now Carter enjoys it too.  We sit back and listen.

Let's take some AR quizzes on what we've read and listened to.

Whittany, Hailey Ann, and Hailee M. ham it up at the computers.

Hard at work!

Good friends, Anessa and Hailey Ann, share a book.

Carter and Jordyn get some new books to read.

The Important Book

We read The Important Book and created our own pages about winter.  We used a "frame" and filled in the blanks.  You can read them here:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1EsIq73eD9rSO25l8W-TgBE7o4aWU8L4t44Cu0fQD32I/edit#

Next we will pick our own topics and write about them to create Our Class Important Book.
