Learning How to Pick a Book

We are discussing how and why we pick books.  Felicity helped demonstrate that just as shoes have their own purpose books do too.

We have to choose our own books, think about why we want to read, and find books that interest us.  Then we have to be sure we understand what we read and if we know most of the words.

Read A Rama

This was last spring's Read A Rama.  We read and took AR tests.  What a fun day!

100th Day of School!

The 100th Day of School has come and gone.  It's hard to believe we have been in second grade 100 days.  We celebrated with projects and games!

Kamryn made the 100 with 100 shakey eyes.  Then she decorated her poster.

Josh made a face with 100 pieces of macaroni.

Mrs. Kisner's class joined ours in writing 100 things we've learned this year.  Awesome!

Next we played math games.  We rolled the die 100 times and see which numbers came up the most.  When we finished with that, we  moved on to flipping a coin 100 times to see if heads or tails came up the most.  We all had different answers.  Interesting!

Predicting how high water would come in our cups with 100 drops was our favorite activity of the day!

Another station was filling out our 100th Day News.

We ended the day by writing all the ways we could to make $1.00.  There are so many!

Ms. Willingham, Our Student Teacher

We have been so lucky that we have a student teacher from OVU this winter.  Ms. Willingham has been working with us for the last 5 weeks.  She has 2 more weeks with us.

Ms. Willingham uses the Mimio board to help us with helping verbs.

As part of our morning routine, we turn our homework to be checked.

It's Show-N-Tell time.
Dylan shows us his Lego truck.

Alina shows us her craft.

Snow-ology!

For the month of January we thought we should learn about snow and make snowmen glyphs.  We decorated our snowmen with our answers to some winter questions.  Here's how they turned out!

Make $1.00

We worked in groups and made posters with ways to make $1.00.  Our goal was to make at least 4 ways and most of us were able to make many more!
