Butterfly Release

We are letting the butterflies go.

My Friend

     We are writing narratives about our friends using the four square graphic organizer.  Cassell's Nana is helping us publish them on the computer.  Here are some examples.

                  I have a friend  His name is Max.  First, we play together. 
            Next, we talk a lot.  Last, we like each other.  Max and I are
            great friends.

Fighting the Fire

     Our reading story last week was about fighting fires.

Painted Lady Butterflies

     On Thursday our painted lady butterflies began emerging from their chrysalises.  It took them 1 week to go from the chrysalis stage to the adult stage.  Now we will feed them sugar water and observe them until we let them go. 

    We created our own models of butterflies emerging from their chrysalises.

Painted Lady Butterflies

We have 5 chrysalises of painted lady butterflies.  We are anxious to see the adults.  We received the caterpillars on September 7th and by September 9th, all of them made their chrysalises.  Our research says they should emerge in 7 to 10 days.  We can't wait!  Pictures coming soon!

Back to Work!

       We are all rested after our three day weekend. We've been busy in math with our new series.  It's different than we are used to but we are having fun with it.

Collecting acorns is a fun thing to do outside.  Alex shows us one of his collection.

      How fast can we put our names in alphabetical order?  Some of us are really fast!  We can alphabetize to the third letter.

The First Week

     One week of second grade is done.  At recess we can play kickball, jump rope, and play on the spiderweb.  We've read good books like Andy Shane and Very Bossy Delores Starbuckle. 

Joey and Cassell read their "Good Fit" Books and practice reading independently.

     We've played math games.  Today we learned Addition Top-It and on Wednesday we played Number Squeeze.

  We are ready for the weekend for some fun and relaxation.  By Monday we will be rested and ready to learn.
