United States Postcard Exchange

Our class has joined a postcard exchange with 39 other classes across the United States.  The postcards tell us about their state.  We have received 5 cards so far.  We sent ours out before Christmas.



Caleb shows us where West Virginia is on the United States map.



This is our postcard.  It shows that our state animal is the black bear, our tree is the sugar maple, our flower is the rhododendron, and our bird is the cardinal.  We got our postcards for free from the Welcome Center in Williamstown, WV.  The lady that worked there was really helpful!

This is a sticker that the Welcome Center gave us.  We have them stuck everywhere!

Ryan is reading the postcard that we are sending.  We hope that all of our new friends enjoy it!



Christmas Party 2010

We played Christmas Pictionary, and then Mrs. Himelrick read How the Grinch Stole Christmas.  When she said "Who," we had to pass our gifts to the right.

Miss Judy makes sure we are passing the gift to the RIGHT when we hear "Who."

The gifts are opened and now we can eat.

Ornaments

Mrs. Ranson helps us make ornaments for a gift for our parents.

Winter Wonderland

Mrs. Stewart helps us make winter wonderlands out of marshmallows.

Geometry

We eat our healthy snack and finish creating our shapes with triangles and rectangles.  We tried to make a square, retangle, triangle, rhombus, kite, trapezoid, parallelogram, 4 pointed star, and our own creation.

Smokey the Bear

Brayden remembers what we learned about forest fires when she spots this sign while traveling with her family.  Thanks Mom for climbing the embankment so we could see this picture!

Thermometers

     Temperature tells if it is hot or cold.  The temperature outside has been very low lately.  That means it has been cold.  We've been keeping track on a graph.  In October and September we had more warm temperatures.  In November we've had more cold temperatures.  Celsius makes more sense.  Fahrenheit doesn't make as much sense.  Only the U.S.A. uses Fahrenheit.  Most other countries use Celsius.  We measure the temperature of hot water and icy water.  We watched the temperatures rise and fall.  Room temperature was about 75 degrees Fahrenheit and 24 degrees Celsius.   Water freezes at 32 degrees Fahrenheit and 0 degrees Celsius.  Water boils at 212 degrees Fahrenheit and 100 degrees Celsius.
