Red Ribbon Week - Wednesday

I forgot to take pictures yesterday of us dressed in our hats for  "Hats off for being drug free!"  Sorry about that.

Today was "I'm too bright for drugs!"  Check us out in our bright colors.  Mrs King also came in to talk to us.

Red Ribbon Week - Monday

Follow Your Dreams!  Don't do drugs.

We wore our pajamas and had a comfortable day as we listened to some of our friends do Show and Tell.

Monarch Butterfly

Mrs. Roberts found monarch butterfly caterpillars at her farm and graciously shared them with us.  Here is our caterpillar making the J shape to begin his chrysalis.

The chrysalis is finished and now all we can do is wait!

Over the weekend the adult butterfly emerges.  Mrs. Games gave it some sugar water until we could let it free.

Here is the empty chrysalis.

Mrs. Kisner's class and our class went outside to let it go.  It flew away really quickly!  Mrs. Games could not get a good picture.  Good bye butterfly!

Reading Just Right Books

Every year Mrs. Games starts the year with a lesson on choosing your "Just Right" book.  We compare books to shoes.  Different shoes have different purposes.  Some are for exercise, rain, fancy occasions, or just hanging around the house. Books can be the same.  Some books are for giving us information or just fun to read!

Different books fit different people too.  Mrs. Games can't fit into Alivia's shoes and Alivia can't wear Mrs. Games's shoes.  They can't be too big or too small.  We have to find the shoe that is "Just Right."  When we are reading, we need to look for the book that fits us "Just Right."  It can't be "too big" or "too small" or we won't grow as readers.

Leila is using what she has learned to choose a "Just Right" book.

We're practicing our reading stamina.  How long can we sit and read?  Now we are able to read for 12 minutes!

The First Day!

This is our classroom door decorated for the first day.  Our theme this year is "Minds Under Construction".  Everyone got construction hats and the whole school celebrated the new year.
