The Butterfly Cycle

The catepillars are little babies.

The catepillars are growing.  We learned that another name for catepillar is larva.

When they crawl to the top, we know that they are getting ready to make their chrysalis.

They attach to the top and form a "J" shape.

The catepillars have gone into the pupa stage and have the hard covering over them called a chrysalis.

Mrs. Games put them in the big butterfly container and they have become adults!  Look at our butterflies!

We noticed that there were markings on the wings and Avi told us that the markings camouflage them in the wild.  We also saw that some of the markings look like eyes and Ethan told us that the "eyes" scare other animals away that might eat them.
